How long have you been  working for Safe Families for Children–Greater Milwaukee Area?

“Since July 22, 2019.”

What does a typical work day look like for you?

“Well, today I’m doing catch up on all my case notes. Usually I make tons of phone calls trying to find host families for families in care–really trying to find the best fit. I have meetings, and I do some visits for the families that I’m coaching. I do some home visits too. I occasionally go out to different community organizations to explain Safe Families to them so that they can refer parents to us. Really it’s lots of talking on the phone.

Something we should know about you is?

“I also work three other jobs–Cru (Campus Ministry) at UW-Milwaukee, nannying, and being a teaching aide.”

What do you feel you bring to the team?

“Positivity. I also came from a different background than the others on our team. I didn’t grow up going to church, and I came from a single parent background. I’m also the only minority on the team.

“I also worked a lot with children before Safe Families, as well as having many years of ministry experience.”

What has surprised you about SF?

“Our family coaches have really surprised me. The more I get to know them, I find out how rockstar-y they are. They just genuinely want to help people. They go out of their way to help those in need.”

What do you like about SF?

“I like my team; they are very supportive and encouraging. I like the passion of everyone who volunteers and works with us. Their passion for serving and for the Lord overflows into everything that they do.

I like being challenged on what it really means to love others, as well as finding joy in the little things and being grateful for what I have. I’ve had a perspective change on what generosity truly looks like.”

Favorite Hobby?

“I don’t have time for hobbies, Laura! But I enjoy taking photos, and I really like podcasts and books.”

Enneagram type?

“Two. Being a two–the helper–helps me help others. It can also be not good because I tend to ignore my own needs and have no time for hobbies.”

Myers-Briggs?

“ESFJ.”

Just for fun…what’s in your car?

“A ton of clothes to donate to goodwill, a bunch of car seats, a TON of snacks, a craft box for nannying, and a TON of shoes in my backseat. My passenger seat looks like a person because I have a hat and a scarf on it. An old lunchbox, a bunch of papers that need to be filed, two first aid kits, an emergency box, an ice scraper, a bunch of hair ties, perfume, deodorant, and chapstick.”
